Foots Cray U13 reach Finals Day in May.
The under 13 Foots Cray girls have been amazing this year, never giving up in their league struggle early in the season and having a good cup run that has lead them to a Kent Girls & Ladies Football League Tina Marshall Cup Final in just their second season.
The Tina Marshall cup run began back on January 31st and having only won one league game all season the girls began that day a little nervous but came through with a good confidence building win against TW Ladies.
It turned out that the win against TW began a 5 game unbeaten run which included the second round win over Strood in the Tina Marshall Cup.
The girls continued to work hard in training but thoughts of facing a very good Pettswood team in the semi-final, who have not lost a league game all season brought back memories of last season’s semi-final defeat but everyone was determined to play as well as possible.
With a few pre-game nerves, the Foots Cray girls started well and continued to press as much as possible whilst limiting Pettswood to only a few chances, the first half was a tight affair but that had also been to story of the league games so at half-time the team talk was all about the effort to work hard and use our subs well.
The second half continued to be close but with 8 minutes to go the Foots Cray girls broke down the wing and with a cross that allowed us to finally get through the Pettswood defence and finish well to go 1-0 up with very little time to go, that goal caused a huge celebration from not just the players on the pitch but the subs on the line too showing the girls really believe in each other and everyone working together.
Every second of the last few minutes felt like an eternity but at the final whistle the girls, parents and everyone involved with Foots Cray who were watching the game celebrated.
Remembering respect for our opponents, handshakes all-round before the Foots Cray girls showed their relief by throwing water over each other.
Well done to all the girls and we now look forward to a great day out on May 15th.
