Tunbridge Wells Ladies celebrate a 4-1 victory against our friends at Dartford FC.
TWells started their cup journey on 21st Feb by beating Dulwich FC 3-1 at home. A brace from Abi Todd put TWells ahead after many opportunities at both ends. Georgina Newman coolly finished a good passing move to lead 3-0 with Dulwich scoring a late consolation.
The semi-final at Dartford presented a harder challenge after the teams had played out a thrilling 3-3 draw only 3 weeks earlier. Tunbridge Wells started well and was controlling possession when Dartford broke free and hit the post and then were awarded a penalty when Imogen Ellis was harshly judged to push over Dartford forward after a long ball pass. Luckily for TWells the penalty was hit over the bar. Maude Fouque made a purposeful run and laid a perfect cross for Abi Todd to open the scoring.
The game was very even and TWells were lucky to be 1-0 ahead at half time. Nerves were calmed and The Wells started the 2nd half with more confidence, creating many half opportunities.
Eventually Abi Todd jinked through three players and calmly slotted the ball in the bottom left hand corner of the goal.
Georgina Newman hit the post and then calmed the nerves when scoring the third with a fine strike. Dartford never gave up and scored after a number of attempts and saves by Iona Campbell in the Wells goal.
Sara Walker finished off a fine display when scoring in the last minute when latching on to a fine corner from captain Nancy Perkins.
