Graveshams two U18 teams were both winners in
their Semi Final matches on Sunday.
Richard Hancock’s 2nd year U18s beat their fellow Division 1 side, Barming with an impressive team performance, allowing Barming just one effort on target the whole game, whilst up front Rachel Stevens scored a stunning hattrick , with Daisy Wickenden adding the 4th.
With several players carrying injuries, the team have performed admirably to reach the final for the 2nd consecutive year and to also be challenging for runners up spot in the league.
Kevin Baxter’s 1st year U18s faced Foots Cray Lions in an all 2nd division tie. It proved to be the usual hard fought and close encounter between 2 competitive teams who always produce good football. Gravesham took control early with Megan Jeffery scoring against her old club after a flowing move involving Ami Burnham & Shannon Manning. Roisin Fuller added a second with a precise 25 yard effort. Foots Cray responded and pulled one back early in the second half, but a storming run from Morgan Whyman set up Megan Jeffery for her 2nd.
Again, Foots Cray responded as a long range shot found the top corner. Gravesham eventually made the game safe though as Rebecca Burnham calmly slotted home a penalty given for handball. Every player played their part in securing the teams 2nd final in 2 years.
Both sides look forward to the final which should be another close fought competitive game – may the best team win! :)
